Thoughts, Wishes & Goals for the 70.3WC

I still cannot believe it! In approx. 48h I’m on the plane to Montreal and slowly my long awaited dream will come true: Participation in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships (Mont Tremblant/Quebec/ Canada).

Anja Kobs Juli 2014

Exactly one year ago began the preparation for THE race for which I had to qualify first though! After a well mastered winter-season I went very early in the year to Tenerife for a total of just over 5 weeks (4 + 1) to practice in and around the T3 training center. Finally back in Germany early April, the first promising preparation competitions were held. Among other things, I was able to win mid-April with a new personal best the Halfmarathon in Pfarrkichen, only two weeks later I competed under professionals at the Rheintal-Duathlon  and ended up with a 6th overall (1st AG35 ). The 2014 season started even better, as the 2013er ended!

On May 10, the first possible qualification competition was held in Europe (Mallorca). With already high summer temperatures, I could fully retrieve my potential and placed in the first major international competition 5th in my age group and at the same time secured the coveted slot for Canada.
Since then, the season is with a healthy variety of regeneration and hard training in superb swing (s. results). Above all, injury and illness free, which is certainly owed to the profound training-specs of my coach!

I feel mentally and physically well prepared, I’m crazy on the race and extremely proud to be there!

What I am looking for? I would like to crack very much the “5h hurdle“ with times of 35min (swim), 2:45h (bike) and 1:35 h (run) plus transition. Which placement under 144 starter*) pops out afterward is, however, totally open; the front third would be great.

Though, I am fully concentrating on my race! Originally I had once flirted with a „Top10“, after looking at the start list of the AG35 I had pushed this rather quickly away: I don’t know the course and many of the strong US-competitors have completed already 70.3 Mont Tremblant in June (where they qualified for the now on the same course taking place WC’s). Though, one thing remains for sure: I will give for me and all my loyal companions who supported me so great in recent months, everything and fight hard; even if it’s occasionally bitterly hurts.

“Who fights can lose, who doesn’t did already”

*) AgeGroup F35-39, in total approx. 2700
